If you want to go skiing and snowshoeing, it won’t be easy to get to the summits on a single-day trip. Nevertheless, you can go to the major trailheads to get the best ski touring and snowshoeing.

For snowmobiling, you will only be able to go on the un-groomed Tote Road, but there will be no available facility on that route, so please prepare your own. The maximum speed for snowmobiling is 20 mph, and the Tote Road is not snowmobiling-exclusive; there will be other vehicles and people using the same road.

To get permission for winter mountain hiking or climbing, you must get to the registration points in person.

Normal day users will find it difficult to conquer Katahdin via the Abol Trail, and a seven-business-days prior reservation must be made to give permission for above treeline skiing and climbing.

Ice climbs for daily use are few and far between; the most usable ones should be near the Park’s Tote Road. For example, the ice climbs to the southeast of Doubletop Mountain, but you will need to cross Nesowadnehunk Stream first. When you reserve the service in Baxter Park, the fee will include all your requests for reservation. The sale tax will be added following applicable laws and can only be paid in U.S. currency. Children at 6 years old and under are exempt from charge.
