Job Description for Customer Service Representative II - Togue Pond Visitor Center

SALARY: Hourly $9.75 / Bi-weekly $780.00
SCOPE OF WORK:
This is a public information position responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Visitor Center located at Togue Pond. This position is responsible for providing information, maps and books for visitors. The employee in this position must have broad knowledge of park resources and facilities, and must exercise tact, maintaining good public relations with Park users under all circumstances. This position is under the supervision of the Park Naturalist. TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Provide the general public with information and education material such as trail conditions, natural history, reservation information and weather forecasts.
- Oversee the inventory and sale of items stocked in the Visitor Center and maintain an adequate inventory via requisitions to the Clerk III, Reservation Supervisor.
- Maintain adequate inventory of free information materials and handouts as needed.
- Keep all financial records and visitor statistics pertinent to Visitor Information Center operations.
- Provide a radio link between Headquarters, South Gate, the Visitor Information Center, other Park locations/personnel and the public as needed.
- Operate the Visitor Information Center (7) seven days per week with a (2) two person schedule allowing coverage from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or 10 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. accordingly.
- Maintain the Visitor Information Center I compliance with the cleanliness standards in effect for all BSP workstations as outlined in the BSP manual of Standard Operating Procedures.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally.
- Knowledge of basic clerical procedures such as collecting fees for sales, keeping financial and statistical records.
- Knowledge of basic computations.
- Knowledge of Park trails, distances to Park facilities, camping areas and park rules, regulations and operating procedures.
- Ability to answer questions and provide information to visitors regarding points of interest and facilities in the Park.
- Ability to work independently.
- Knowledge and ability to maintain a clean and safe environment for visiting public.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Six months to one year of experience in public contact and service AND demonstrated interest in camping, backpacking or other forms of outdoor recreation.
HOUSING INFORMATION:
Housing is provided at no cost to the employee, this is bunk space in shared housing; which may or may not be at the actual work site. The employee furnishes his/her own food and propane. (Propane is available through the Park.)
Please note: This position is open-competitive and requires the applicant to undergo testing with the State of Maine and placement on a state register which will be used to fill the position.
