BSP Trail Team # 4
Hunt Trail - Erosion Control - Labor Day Weekend
August 27 - September 3, 2008 (Wednesday to Wednesday)

Rock extraction

This trail project is the most technical one to be conducted in the Park.  The process entails gathering and transporting granite materials on a cable and rigging system to the trail, where the stone is then utilized for the construction of rock waterbars, staircase steps and rip-rap.

There are several work stations and tasks on this project to choose from.  Winch operators, stone processors, stone setters, and rope handlers will work in concert to transport the necessary materials to harden the trail’s tread.

The worksite is approximately 1.5 miles from the trailhead of the Hunt Trail at Katahdin Stream Campground. Volunteer accommodations will be lean-tos and tent sites at the Abol Narrows Volunteer Facility.

The duration of this project is eight (8) days due to organization and set up time for the rigging system.  Come enjoy the last weekend of the summer with us on the Hunt Trail!

There is room for 12 volunteers.                    Challenge Level = Moderate / Difficult
