Baxter State Park Posts new Roving Ranger

Baxter State Park is pleased to announce the selection of Dan Pontbriand of Gouldsboro, Maine to the position of Roving Ranger. Dan joins the Park staff after a long career with the National Park Service and will bring his years of experience and substantial outdoor skills to the trails and mountains of the Park. Dan will provide resource protection, recreation management, search and rescue and facilities maintenance work in Baxter Park. The Roving Ranger position provides coverage at any and all Park duty stations when needed to fill in for employees away from work for vacation, illness or personal reasons. Consequently, you may see Dan anywhere in the Park this summer. We look forward to starting the 2012 summer season with Dan on board.



Baxter Park Posts Draft Fire Plan

The Maine Forest Service and Baxter State Park have completed a collaborative effort on the revision of the Park’s Fire Management Plan. The Baxter State Park Authority will consider the acceptance of the draft plan at their January 12 meeting at Cross Building in Augusta.



Baxter State Park Posts Summer Backcountry
Rangers to Chimney Pond Campground

Baxter State Park is pleased to announce the selection of Cathy Lusk of Cape Elizabeth and Mark Sairio of Brunswick, Maine to the positions of summer season Backcountry Rangers at Chimney Pond. The pair will provide public safety, recreational and property management and resource protection services at Chimney Pond Campground for the during the summer camping season from June through to the end of the Park camping season in mid-October. Both Rangers bring solid experience to this important Park posting as they join the ranks of a long line of Rangers that have served the Park in this iconic Park location.

Baxter State Park is pleased to announce the selection of Greg Hamer of Frankfort, Maine and Mark Sairio of Brunswick, Maine to the positions of winter Backcountry Rangers. The pair will provide public safety, recreational and property management and resource protection services at Chimney Pond Campground for the winter period from January through March. Both are experienced rangers – Ranger Hamer has worked at numerous summer postings including Roaring Brook and Chimney Pond Campgrounds and is currently serving as Campground Ranger at Russell Pond. Ranger Sairio has worked at numerous facilities in the Park as a summer Backcountry Ranger.
